Kyra thinks about quitting
Kyra can hardly believe that she’s seriously thinking about quitting her job as an eighth-grade language arts teacher. She’s wanted to teach ever since she was a little girl, but lately she just dreads going into her classroom. It takes her ten minutes to get the class settled down; and, as soon as she stops to find materials or to pass something out, her students lose control again. During silent reading, half the class talks and the other half sits staring at the ceiling. During writing, Kyra spends all her time running around prompting kids to get started. She’s beginning to think there must be an easier way to earn a living.
